My husband and I started watching Stranger Things this week. I was initially skeptical that the show would be able to live up to the hype. I’m not as attracted to the 80’s nostalgia thing as some. Happily, I can report we’re completely sucked in to the show.
For me, the appeal is all about the casting and characters.
First…those kids. Just amazing. I hate lumping them all together in some anonymous blob of acting talent. They deserve to be called out for their individual prowesses:
- Finn Wolfhard as “Mike Wheeler”
- Gaten Matarazzo as “Dustin Henderson”
- Caleb McLaughlin as “Lucas Sinclair”
- Noah Schnapp as “Will Byers”
- Milly Bobby Brown as “Eleven”
And David Harbour. A lot has been said about Wynona Ryder, and I agree with all the rave reviews. But I’m more interested in the riveting performance by Mr. Harbour as Chief Jim Hopper, which I hope results in the kind of career rocketing boost he so richly deserves. Let’s give this guy some headlining roles!

And NetFlix just keeps hitting them out of the park.
